On behalf of the Carol Umbarger family, we present the following obituary and service information:

Carol Satree Umbarger, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on May 19, 1945, in Salinas, California, she was the daughter of Clifford and Babe Satree and sister to Norman Satree, all of whom preceded her in death.

Carol graduated from Salinas High School in 1963 and married the love of her life, Larry Umbarger, that same year. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising four children: Allen Umbarger (Teri), Stacey O'Neill (Tim O'Neill), Aaron Umbarger, and Scott Umbarger. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Branson (Paola), Bryce, Ian, Gavin, Fiona, Matthew, Sam, Kadence, Adam, Logan, and Lucas.

In 1969, Carol and Larry moved to King City, accompanied by her 9 horses, a testament to her love of animals and her adventurous spirit. She quickly became an integral part of the community, founding the Junior Women's Club to connect with others and serving as an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Carol was known for her generous heart, often helping others in any way she could.

Carol had an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for creativity. She spent 13 years working with the Salinas Valley Fair before embarking on ventures that reflected her love for food and community, including opening "Not by Bread Alone" restaurant and a deli at Lynn's Liquor. However, her true calling emerged when she started Creekside Farms from her home, growing dried flowers and crafting wreaths. What began as a small business blossomed into a thriving company, employing many of her family members and members of the local community, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and dedication.

Her hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit: she loved photography, gardening, traveling, listening to jazz and blues, and learning about new technology. A true animal lover, she always had a loyal dog by her side and rescued countless stray cats.

Carol's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She could always be found cheering on her children and grandchildren at their activities and events, offering unwavering support. Known for her warm smile and ability to make friends easily, she left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

In her honor, the family requests donations to Sol Treasures or any other organization dear to your heart.

Carol will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community, but her legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

SERVICES:

A memorial service and celebration of Carol's life will be held at the Umbarger Ranch on June 14, 12:00-5:00 p.m.
