IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Ann
Harris
June 11, 1937 – August 12, 2023
Barbara Ann Harris, 86, was reunited with her husband, George Harris Jr., in heaven on August 12, 2023.
Born in Holtville, CA on June 11, 1937, Barbara was the oldest of 5 siblings. When she was a young child, Barbara and her family moved to King City and lived on the East Ranch for many years. She attended King City High School and then went on to Hartnell to obtain her AA Degree in Early Childhood Education. While pursuing her degree at Hartnell she met her future husband, George. They soon married and had 5 beautiful children. Unfortunately, George passed away when he was far too young due to an accident. Barbara then proceeded to raise their 5 children on her own. This was a very difficult endeavor, but she persevered. Her children are testament to that.
Barbara was a beloved preschool teacher for several decades. She was very dedicated to providing an outstanding preschool education to many young children in our community. She was ever so patient and kind.
After retiring, Barbara volunteered at Mee Memorial Hospital and ended up running the gift shop. She loved it so much she decided to open her own shop in town called "Nooks and Crannies". She then moved her shop to San Juan Bautista for a brief time before coming back to King City. She was happily living her life until she suffered a debilitating stroke in 2016. For the last 7 years she has been in the care of Windsor Gardens in Salinas. We are very thankful to the staff who took very good care of her until her passing.
Barabara is survived by her 5 children: Lynn Taylor (Mike), Rick (Maureen), Craig, Lori Wilson, and Ron (Wendy). She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who meant the world to her!
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 24, 2023, in the King City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at St. John's Parish Hall at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation or a charity of your choosing.
