Obituary

Arthur De Leon Medina entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the age of 98, called home to the Lord while surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.

Arthur De Leon Medina was born on September 21, 1927, in La Junta, Colorado, to Salvador and Julia Medina. At the young age of eight, Art experienced the heartbreaking loss of his mother. From an early age, he learned resilience, responsibility, and the deep importance of faith and family values that would shape the course of his 98 years.

On December 20, 1947, Art married the love of his life, Josephine Romero. In December of 2025, they celebrated 78 years of marriage, a rare and extraordinary testament to commitment, perseverance, and shared faith. Together, they built a beautiful and enduring family and were blessed with five children: Julia Slamkowski, Rocky Medina, Geraldine Ramirez, Joseph Medina, and Martin "Marty" Medina.

In 1955, Art brought his young family from Colorado to King City, California, where they settled on the Murrietta Camp on Bitterwater Road. Agriculture was not just his livelihood; it was his life's work. He worked as a field irrigator for Frank Scolari and Foreman on Mesa Farms, Inter-Harvest, and Hansen Farms. Through dedication, grit, and a strong work ethic, he later became a foreman. In 1983 Art and Josephine moved to Ojai, CA as Art took a job as Manager of an orange orchard before eventually returning, 10 years later to King City, where he and Josephine would spend the remainder of their lives.

Art was a hardworking and determined provider who took immense pride in supporting his large and growing family. Bold, full of energy, and never one to blend into the background, Art had a way of making himself known. He carried strong convictions, high expectations, and a deep sense of loyalty, especially to those he loved most. Beneath that strength was a playful spirit and a twinkle in his eye that revealed his warmth and humor.

The loss of their son Marty in 1995 brought a sorrow that Art and Josephine carried in their hearts every day. Yet through grief, Art's deep and unwavering devotion to his Lord Jesus Christ sustained him. A faithful and devoted Catholic, he trusted in God's promises and found comfort in the hope of eternal life. His family takes peace in knowing he was surely greeted in heaven by his beloved son.

Art's servant heart extended beyond his own household. For many years, he volunteered with Loaves and Fishes and the King City Community Food Pantry. There, he became known not only for his reliability but for handing out cookies and warm wishes to those in need. Providing those cookies to the children of the family is what Art loved most. His generosity reflected the faith he lived daily - simple, sincere, and rooted in service.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Julia Medina; his beloved son, Martin "Marty" Medina; and his brother, Diego Medina, half-siblings Jimmy, Lupe, Richard and Freddy Medina.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 78 years, Josephine Medina; his children, Julia Slamkowski, Rocky Medina, Geraldine Ramirez, and Joseph Medina; his sister Esther, and half siblings Paul, Mary, Socorro, Teresa, and Rosie. His legacy continues through 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren plus 1 on the way, and 11 great-great-grandchildren plus 1 on the way, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren, generations who carry forward his name, his faith, and his enduring love of family.

Art's life was one of devotion, devotion to God, devotion to his wife, and devotion to his family. He led with conviction, provided with strength, loved with loyalty, and lived with unmistakable energy. While his spirited presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he now rests in the eternal peace of Christ, reunited with loved ones and welcomed home with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant".

The Holy Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Saint John the Baptist Church in King City, with the Funeral Mass immediately following . Interment at King City Cemetery and a reception will follow.

As a devoted Catholic, Art lived his life firmly rooted in faith. His family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in prayer as they entrust him to the eternal peace of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Art Medina to Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 504 N. Third Street, King City, CA 93930, in gratitude for the faith that guided his life.
