Obituary

Antonio "Tony" Diaz, 91 of King City passed away quietly on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at George L. Mee Memorial Skilled Nursing Facility, where he had resided during the last few years of his life.

Tony was born in Weldona, Colorado on May 17, 1922. There he spent his childhood with his five brothers, three sisters, parents and several relatives. The family moved to California in the 1940's settling in King City.

Tony made his livelihood working at Forden Farm and at San Bernabe Vineyard. He enjoyed working in the great outdoors, tending the fields and driving the farm equipment. After retiring he enjoyed tooling around in his light blue Mercury Comet. He was recognized by many as he would ride around town, usually followed by a long line of cars.

He enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching western movies on television. Tony had many friends he enjoyed sharing time with. He also played the accordion which his family greatly enjoyed. Tony liked going to garage sales, often accompanied by his brother Fred, where he would socialize as well as buy many treasures which he shared with his family and friends. He had an endearing smile and modest way of speaking to people. Tony was a kind and gentle man who will be very much missed by his family and friends.

Tony is survived by his sons, Joseph, Gilbert, Barney and Jerry; a daughter, Bernice and several grandchildren, all from San Bernardino, California. He also leaves behind siblings: Joe Diaz of Santa Ana, California, Fred Diaz of King City, California, Tom Diaz of Salinas, California, Lucy Salcido of King City, California, and Anna Zavala of Paso Robles, California; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Felipa Diaz; brothers, Felix and Lauro Diaz; sister, Victoria Chambers, and son, Ruben Diaz.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel, 333 E. San Antonio Drive, King City.

"Private" Family Graveside Services will be held at King City District Cemetery.
