(Sportsman) Scettrini
July 29, 1922 – January 31, 2021
On Sunday, January 31, 2021, Annabel "Ann" (Sportsman) Scettrini, loving mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 98.
Ann was born on July 29, 1922 in Marceline, MO to Alonzo and Ethel (Simmons) Sportsman. She received her high school diploma in Marceline in 1940. She then moved to California where she worked at the Kaiser Ship Yards in Richmond with her sister Hazel. Ann welded Liberty Ships until she enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. Ann was honorably discharged in 1945 after serving in California, New York, Washington, DC, Florida, and Texas. She served as a Pharmacist Mate Second Class and received a Certificate of Special Instruction as a Dental Technician. Following her service, Ann worked for a dentist in King City, CA until she married Paul Scettrini in 1946. They raised three daughters, Paula, Becky, and Brenda, and five sons, Stephen, Allen, Scott, Brent, and Matthew. Ann worked as a homemaker until 1980 when she went back to work as a union employee for Nob Hill Grocery until she retired.
Ann was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was known to many as "Nana," a job she took very seriously. Ann enjoyed being with her family more than anything. She loved to go on long walks and work on crafts with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bridge every Wednesday with her friends and tending to her garden. Ann lovingly opened her home to her family and loved to have large family holiday gatherings. She attended her grandchildren's performances, concerts, 4H and FFA events, and numerous graduation ceremonies. She was a longtime member of her local parish, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield, CA where she served on the altar society. She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Ann was known for her warm heart and quick wit. She was tenacious and kind and full of love.
Ann was preceded in death by her son, Allen, and her daughter, Becky. She is survived by her children Paula, Brenda, Stephen, Scott, Brent, and Matthew, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 8th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield, Calif.
Per Annabel's wishes a Celebration of Life will be held on her 100 th birthday. Please save the date.
