Alfred Joseph Cognina of King City passed away at his home on February 28, 2014 at the age of 74.
He was born in Fremont California on June 22, 1939. His parents Carmello and Juliana Cognina were ranchers at several different locations before moving to the Bitterwater Ranch in 1966. "Al" was proceeded in death by his mother Juliana and father "Carl".
Even though Al always put family first he had many interests including raising sheep, cattle, and grain crops. After moving from Paicines he met Joanne the love of his life. They were married for 44 years and had two children Arron and Cory.
Al also worked 25 years for SoilServ as a welder. Al was the first Fire Captain for the Pine Canyon Volunteer Fire Dept. Nothing made him happier than to share a cup of coffee or a barbequed steak/hamburger. Everyone was welcomed in his home. He never said "No" to anyone who asked for a favor and was extremely loyal to his friends and family. He will be missed by all.
Al is survived by his wife Joanne; son Arron (Susan Azzarello) of Hollister; daughter Cory (Jeff) Merritt and granddaughter Natalia Juliana Merritt of King City; brother, Anthony (Ellen) Cognina; nephews, Mathew and Brian Cognina.
Al was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in King City and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
SERVICE INFORMATION:
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John's Church on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception after at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Relay for Life King City, or a charity of your choice.
